Résumé
Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) are neurodevelopmental disorders usually diagnosed in school-age children that impair at least one of the major learning areas: reading, writing, calculating. SLD affect between 3-15% of the developmental population and can have a major impact on individual’s life, both in school and in the workplace. In this paper we will deal with how young adults undergraduates diagnosed with SLD, in particular with Developmental Dyslexia, manage their grapheme into phoneme conversion ability, by examining the errors they produce during writing. Our study focuses on Italian, by virtue of the little attention paid to that language on behalf of English in SLD studies. In particular, we aim at recognizing sociolinguistic and metalinguistic causes of the main error pattern found in our sample. To sum up, we believe that the data we discuss may further support the hypothesis of a phonological deficit as the main cause of DD.
